May 2023 --- GENERAL PURPOSE Performs a variety of routine administrative and technicalduties as needed to coordinate the day-to-day operation of one or more city recreation programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Parks & Recreation Director or Recreation Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED May provide general supervision to various part-time, seasonal, and volunteer personnel including coaches, site supervisors, and officials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Administrative Support:
Assists with various short/long range planning, organizing, and scheduling of recreational programs and city events; plans, coordinates and implements activities as needed to assure timely delivery of scheduled events, classes, league play and programs; supervises the operation and activities of such programs as football, baseball, softball, basketball, etc.
; organizes year-end/season tournaments.
Fiscal & Budget Administration:
Manages annual budget; develops annual recommendations for budget requirements; creates revenue projections, etc.
; prepares cost and revenue projections for specific programs and events.
Day-To-Day Operations:
Conducts training as needed; may officiate or referee games or assist in coaching; maintains statistics for games and tournaments.
Manages season concessions operations; recruits and hires temporary/seasonal concessions/cashiering staff; manages concessions inventory and establishes relationships with vendors to obtain purchasing discounts.
Provides immediate supervision over recreation activities and seasonal, temporary or volunteer personnel; conducts training as needed; assists with reservation & building scheduling.
Coordinates and assists with Sports Field Preparation; controls use of equipment and facilities by signing out equipment and by scheduling reservations for use of public facilities.
Supervise all ball fields and gyms for youth and adult leagues, tournaments, special events, and recreation classes or projects (enforce rules and regulations, resolve disputes, and answer questions).
Community & Citizen Relations:
Assists in public relations by finding volunteer workers and presenting new programs to the general public; conducts program registrations.
Carries out publicity programs; utilizes various forms of media, notices, publications, flyers and brochures to promote city-wide interest and use of recreation facilities.
Responsible for coordinating activities with schools and all aspects of preparing gyms for play in on all city and school gymnasiums.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and
Experience:
Graduation from high school, plus one (1) year of specialized training related to recreation administration or youth recreation leadership; AND Sufficient experience to demonstrate an ability to perform above and related duties; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of developing and operating recreation programs; of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation programming; team sports management; community and public relations; rules and regulations of a variety of sports and recreational activities; of equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program; the operation of personal computers and various software applications including spread sheets, word processing, etc.
Some skill in the art of diplomacy and creative problem-solving.
Ability to organize recreational programs, establish class schedules and schedule special events, tournaments and other play activities; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, various age groups, other organizations, and the public; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Special
Qualifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must be Red Cross certified in First Aid and CPR.
May be required to be or become a Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) through the NRPA.
Work Environment:
Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls.
Tasks require variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing.
Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required.
Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.
Periodic travel required in normal course of job performance.
